[Product News] Polyester Fiber Acoustic Boards: A Complete Guide

Table of Contents

Polyester fiber acoustic panels have grown from a specialist product into one of the most specified sound-absorbing materials in commercial interiors. Architects, contractors, and facility managers choose them for a simple reason: they tame echo and background noise without the health and environmental compromises of older materials. This guide explains what they are, how they absorb sound, which specifications to compare, and how to order custom panels for your project.

Polyester Fiber Acoustic Boards A Complete Guide

What Is a Polyester Fiber Acoustic Board?

A polyester fiber acoustic panel — often called a PET acoustic panel — is a rigid, frameless board made from recycled polyester fibers. Heat and pressure bond the fibers together, with no glue, fiberglass, or formaldehyde-based additives. The result is a lightweight but sturdy panel that is safe to handle and to place in occupied rooms.

The same production process lets you finish the board in dozens of colors and surface patterns—flat, 3D, slat, or hexagon—so acoustic treatment no longer has to look like technical equipment.

How Does It Absorb Sound?

The panel works because of its open internal structure, not because of any chemical coating. When a sound wave presses against the panel face, it slips into a dense network of fiber pores. Inside, the wave spends its energy rattling the air trapped in those pores, while the fiber walls absorb the vibration through friction and release it as a negligible amount of heat. What escapes back into the room is a much weaker wave.

That is why a treated room feels calmer: reflections are drained instead of bouncing from surface to surface. Note that this is sound absorption, not sound insulation — panels reduce echo inside a room, while blocking sound between rooms requires barrier materials such as mass-loaded walls or insulation felt.

Where Polyester Fiber Acoustic Panels Work Best

Polyester fiber acoustic panels fit three main deployment modes:

  • On walls — meeting rooms, restaurants, classrooms and studios where speech clarity matters.
  • On ceilings — open offices, corridors and halls where the ceiling is the largest reflective surface.
  • As partitions and furniture panels — desk screens, cabinet and door panels, where the same material doubles as an interior finish.

This breadth is unusual among acoustic products: one material can serve as wall treatment, ceiling solution and decorative furniture panel across a single project.

Sustainability: Panels That Give Back

For projects with environmental targets, polyester fiber acoustic panels offer a concrete story. The raw PET is drawn from the petroleum refining chain, which means producing it adds no new pollution burden. Even better, up to 60% of a panel’s content can come from recycled PET bottles — bottles that would otherwise end up in the waste stream.

Panels also emit no hazardous substances, which makes them a safe choice for classrooms, clinics, and homes. And because they replace traditional finishes such as paint, wood veneer, putty coating, or cement-based wall finishes, they help reduce the consumption of forests and lower indoor air pollution at the same time.

FAQ

Does the panel contain fiberglass? No. The boards are made from recycled polyester fibers only, bonded by heat and pressure, with no fiberglass, glue, or formaldehyde. They are safe for direct contact.

How much of a wall should I cover? A common rule of thumb is to start with roughly 30–50% of the reflective wall area around the noisiest spot, then fine-tune by ear. Coverage matters more than the NRC number alone.

Can I get custom colors, sizes, or our logo? Yes. Panels are produced to your specifications — colors, dimensions, 3D patterns, and OEM branding are all available on request.

What about fire safety and building codes? Our panels are fire-retardant and rated Class A from ASTM E84(US Standard). Always confirm the required class with your local code before specifying.

What are your MOQ and lead time? Standard orders: MOQ 100 SQM, production time 15 days. For distributor pricing and larger volumes, contact our team.
